Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from Your IRA

If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a tax-smart gift to the EveryLibrary Institute directly from your IRA—and help support libraries across the country while potentially reducing your taxable income.

Why Make an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows individuals aged 70½ or older to donate up to $108,000 per year directly from their traditional IRA to a qualified nonprofit like the EveryLibrary Institute, NFP—without counting that amount as taxable income. For many, this is a powerful way to meet your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while supporting a mission you care about.

How to Make a QCD Gift

  1. Contact your IRA custodian and request a “Qualified Charitable Distribution” to EveryLibrary Institute, NFP.
  2. Ask them to include your full name and mailing address with the gift so we can send you a proper acknowledgment for your records.
  3. Ensure the check is made payable directly to:
    EveryLibrary Institute, NFP
    6433 Fairfield Ave.
    Berwyn, IL 60402

Note: To qualify as a QCD, the funds must be transferred directly from your IRA custodian to EveryLibrary Institute. If you receive the funds personally before donating, the amount may be considered taxable income.

Tax Implications

Federal: QCDs are excluded from your taxable income and count toward your Required Minimum Distribution. However, they are not eligible for an additional charitable deduction.

State: Tax treatment may vary by state. We recommend speaking with a financial advisor or tax professional to understand how a QCD may impact your state return.
