Why LAFCON 2027?
Libraries are currently facing a sophisticated, financially motivated assault from external actors using legislation and divisive rhetoric to trigger funding cuts and de-professionalization. Because 98% of library funding is politically determined, the 20% decline in voter support over the last decade poses an existential threat.
LAFCON 2027 is the library ecosystem’s strategic "Winter Institute." We provide the "intel" and hard political skills needed to shape policy outcomes before the legislative year peaks. By convening experts from adjacent fields—including political operatives and community organizers—we teach library leaders to pivot to a proactive advocacy model that wins funding battles and secures institutional longevity.
