The National Special Districts Coalition (NSDC) has proposed a new definition of "special district" for Congress to use when authorizing or funding federal programs. As an active member of the Coalition, the EveryLibrary Institute recognizes the pivotal role this definition can play in ensuring equitable access to federally-funded programs and resources for special districts nationwide.

ELI Joins Letter to Senate Judiciary Opposing EARN IT Act 2023

The EveryLibrary Institute joined over 120 of civil society, privacy, LGBTQ+, and civil rights organizations in a letter organized by Center for Democracy & Technology to express our opposition to the EARN IT Act, S.1207. We believe that this bill will make it harder for law enforcement to protect children online and will jeopardize access to encrypted services.  

ELI Provides Comments to NTIA on Digital Equity Act Rules

There are tremendous opportunities to fund library technology and programming priorities through the Digital Equity Act, but our sector must participate in developing state plans. Without our libraries and state library agencies being identified in the plans as viable enactors of Congress’ goals, we will not be eligible for funding.

New Report on Per Capita Spending for Libraries, Police, and Education

The EveryLibrary Institute, a non-profit public policy organization for libraries, has released a new report entitled "Funding Our Priorities: Comparisons of Public Library Funding and Services with Other Sectors in Post-COVID America."  The report examines the current state of library funding in the US, analyzes trends and patterns in library funding, and provides recommendations for policymakers, library leaders, and advocates to ensure sustainable funding for libraries and information services.
